DENVER — Resurrection Christian finally broke through.
After three trips to the basketball state title game each ending with a loss, the Cougars finally captured their first championship in program history Saturday at the Denver Coliseum -- upsetting top-seeded Kent Denver 76-61 in the Class 4A title game.
Kent Denver was playing for just its second title in program history and first since 1997, but the Sun Devils will have to wait.
Resurrection Christian went 26-2 overall this season, which included putting together a 14-game win streak in route to the championship. Kent Denver went 25-3 as runner-up.
