COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The best games are saved for last, and that was the case in the Class 2A girls soccer state championship.
No. 1 seed Flatirons Academy and No. 7 Buena Vista met in the state title game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday evening, both looking for their first-ever championship.
The Bison and Demons battled into double overtime before a late goal clinched the title for Flatirons Academy in a 2-1 victory.
"We've never made it to the Final Four, so we really, really wanted this," said junior Annabelle Rakers, who scored both goals for the Bison. "We worked hard for it."
Flatirons Academy went 15-1-1 overall in route to its first state title. Buena Vista was 14-4 as runner-up. Mae Blazer scored the lone goal for the Demons.
