WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A teen pleaded guilty Dec. 7 to killing another teen in Westminster in March.
Daniel Medrano pleaded guilty to second-degree murder - heat of passion, and use of a weapon during a violent crime. The latter charge is a sentence enhancer. Medrano was 18 years old when the crime occurred. He's now 19. He had originally faced a first-degree murder charge in the case.
Orlando Montelongo, 18, was killed in the shooting that occurred at around 8 p.m. on March 16.
The shooting happened in the 9600 block of Perry Street, according to a release from Westminster Police. That's near West 96th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard.
Police did not release what led up to the shooting.
Medrano was sentenced Feb. 2 to 26 years in prison, according to court documents.
