GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. — Both directions of Interstate 70 were closed for about an hour and a half Thursday morning due to a rockslide in Garfield County.
The slide happened near milepost 123.5 which is between Grizzly Creek and Hanging Lake, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said.
Eastbound lanes reopened at around 11:30 a.m., CDOT said. The westbound lanes reopened just before noon.
Rocks landed in one westbound lane only. Eastbound lanes were closed as a precaution, CDOT said.
From pictures provided by CDOT, three good-sized rocks fell onto the road. The rocks appear to have taken out a chunk of cement from an inside barrier.
CDOT said prepositioned heavy equipment helped crews clear the slide fairly quickly. CDOT's Geohazards team was headed to the site to assess the slope above the road.
