ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — Family members have identified the teenager who was killed while driving in Adams County early Sunday morning.
According to her family, 19-year-old Amia Radke was shot and killed just a block away from her home. Her car then crashed into a neighbor's property.
Radke's mother was seriously injured, and remains in the hospital.
“She was with my mom, and they had pulled up and seen someone in the middle of the road," Amia's sister Alicianna Garrison said. "My mom noticed that the guy was raising his hand, and my mom just screamed at Amia and said 'go, go go!' and they shot, and they got her instantly.”
The family believes Radke and her mother were targeted randomly. Investigators with the Adams County Sheriff's Office are still searching for the suspects.
“She’s just an innocent soul that was taken for no reason," Radke's father Carlos Grimaldo said. "It’s just an act of evil, that’s all it was, man.”
The family said Radke worked at Home Depot, where she was recently named employee of the month.
"She was the best thing ever," Garrison said. "She would do anything for anybody. She just had the most beautiful soul out of anybody I've ever known."
Grimaldo said his wife is expected to remain hospitalized for at least three months, after breaking both ankles and her femur in the crash.
"She's not going to be around for the wake," he said. "It's very hard."
The family is hoping the person responsible comes forward.
“If I could ask for one thing, it’s that these people are caught and held accountable," Garrison said. "That’s the only thing I want in my life.”
“They were man enough to pull that trigger, they should be man enough to turn themselves in,” Grimaldo said.
The family has set up a fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs.
