COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A crash at the intersection of U.S. 85 and East 56th Avenue in Commerce City left one man dead and another critically injured Saturday.
A spokesperson for the Commerce City Police Department said the crash happened at around 8:30 a.m. In a social media post, the department said a vehicle with the right-of-way crashed into the back of a second vehicle, which they said "appears to have run a red light at a high rate of speed."
The vehicle that was struck came to a stop over the guardrail, ejecting two men who were inside, according to the spokesperson. Both men were taken to a hospital with critical injuries and one of them later died, police said on social media.
The spokesperson said no one else was injured and the other vehicle involved sustained minor damage.
The intersection was closed while officers investigated the crash and reopened at around noon, according to the spokesperson.
No further information was shared about the victims.
