AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Police said on Friday they arrested the teenage driver of a stolen SUV that rolled last month on Interstate 225, killing a 15-year-old girl.
The crash happened on March 30. Five teens were in a stolen 2016 Kia Sorento when the vehicle crashed and rolled on I-225 near Alameda Avenue. Two of the teens were ejected.
A total of four people, including the driver, were injured in the crash. One of them, 15-year-old Chan Titi, died at the hospital. The three others were taken to the hospital with various injuries. A fifth occupant was evaluated by paramedics and released to a guardian.
A warrant was issued Wednesday for the 17-year-old driver from Denver on suspicion of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and two counts of motor vehicle theft, Aurora Police said. The driver wasn't identified because he is a minor. Aurora Police previously said the driver didn't have a license.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section determined speed was the most significant factor in the crash. The usage of seat belts, as well as alcohol and drugs, were still being investigated as contributing factors. Investigators found opened and unopened alcohol containers in the SUV.
