ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A female driver has died after being shot early Sunday morning while driving in Adams County, the sheriff's office said on Tuesday.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) said she was driving with a passenger in the 1800 block of Sherrelwood Drive at around 2:20 a.m. There were a couple of juveniles in the street who began firing shots as the car neared, the sheriff's office said.
The driver was hit by the gunfire and crashed into Francisco Chacon's car, which was parked in his driveway. The impact of the crash pushed his car into his home.
"Horrible situation. Really scary," Chacon said. "Woke up to my wife screaming there was something going on upstairs, a big boom. Ran upstairs, looked at the car, I noticed there was a car hitting our house through the window, so I looked outside and there was another vehicle here."
The driver and her passenger were rushed to a hospital, according to witnesses. The sheriff's office said the driver was later pronounced dead.
The victim's name and age have not yet been released by the Adams County Coroner's Office.
The juveniles who fired shots ran from the scene. The sheriff's office said investigators are working to identify the shooters.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Adams County Sheriff's Office.
