Man killed in RTD bus shooting identified

Denver police have not released any suspect information.

DENVER — A man was killed and another man was injured on a Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus in Denver Saturday night, according to police.

The Denver Police Department said the shooting happened at around 6:40 p.m. on Jan. 27 at Mississippi Avenue and Federal Boulevard. 

One man died after being transported to the hospital. He was identified as Richard Sanchez, 60, by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. His death was ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds. 

The other victim's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

They have not released any suspect information.

DPD said the bus belongs to Transdev, a contractor for RTD.

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
