LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The Lakewood Police Department (LPD) responded to three unrelated incidents - a shooting, a carjacking, and a barricaded suspect in a house - from late Saturday into Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred about 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 12600 block of West Mississippi Avenue, where Lakewood Police found an injured man in the street.
The victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries from at least one gunshot wound, according to a release from LPD. His name has not been released.
Several hours later, police arrested a suspect in a nearby residence. He was later identified as 40-year-old Michael David Counterman of Englewood. He was booked for attempted homicide and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, police said.
Police responded to the carjacking about 6:50 a.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven at 1110 S. Pierce St.
The victim reported that two males armed with a knife had stolen her vehicle, according to an LPD release. No one was injured in the incident. One suspect left the scene in the stolen vehicle, and the other might have left on a motorcycle.
Lakewood officers located the vehicle about 11:30 a.m. Sunday and pursued it into Denver, where it crashed in the area of West 5th Avenue and Newton Street, according to an LPD spokesperson.
The two occupants fled on foot and were arrested by officers with LPD and the Denver Police Department. The suspects were identified as Emilio Domingues and Eduardo Ruelas, both 17, who had escaped Saturday from the Mount View Youth Services Center in Jefferson County.
