Two teens detained after escaping from Jeffco youth detention facility

17-year-olds Emilio Domingues and Eduardo Ruelas escaped just before 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the sheriff's office.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colorado — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) says two teens are back in custody after they escaped from Mount View Youth Services Center on Saturday night.

According to JCSO, 17-year-olds Emilio Domingues (left) and Eduardo Ruelas (right) escaped from the facility near South Wadsworth Boulevard and U.S. 285 just before 8 p.m.

A staff member at the facility was assaulted and went to the hospital, JCSO said. 

Multiple agencies assisted in the search, according to a JCSO spokesperson. The two teens were taken by into custody just before noon Sunday, according to JCSO.

A spokesperson for the Lakewood Police Department (LPD) said that Lakewood officers took the teens into custody after locating a vehicle that was stolen in an armed carjacking a few hours earlier.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the vehicle fled into Denver. The Lakewood officers pursued the vehicle, and it crashed in the area of West 5th Avenue and Newton Street.

The two occupants fled on foot and were arrested by LPD and Denver Police, the spokesperson said. The two who were taken into custody were Domingues and Ruelas.

No officers were involved in the crash, and no one was injured, the LPD spokesperson said.

Mount View is a secure, co-ed multi-purpose youth center operated by the Colorado Department of Human Services' (CDHS) Division of Youth Services, according to the CDHS website.
