HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — The man at the center of an hours-long standoff in Highlands Ranch on Thursday was wanted on domestic violence charges in Jefferson County.
Around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, a CodeRed alert was issued for the area of West Timbervale Trail in Highlands Ranch, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. They worked for hours to get the people inside to surrender and just before noon said that two people were taken into custody.
According to an arrest affidavit for the suspect, he was found hiding in the attic of the home once officers made entry. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and later booked into the Douglas County Jail.
He's now facing additional charges in Douglas County related to the standoff that include resisting arrest, obstruction of a peace officer, and failure to leave a premises upon request by a peace officer.
Jonah Ulery lives two houses down from where the standoff happened.
“7:30 was when I heard the first loud bang and some glass shattering, and I wasn't quite sure what it was,” Ulery said.
He said the commotion throughout the morning even shook his family's house.
“Very uneasy,” Ulery said. “Especially when they started using tactical force, and you’d hear the loud bangs would shake the house.”
Ulery said the house where the standoff happened is usually noisy.
“They would rev their engines really loud, party until the wee hours of the morning,” Ulery said. “Right across the street is a new young family with a very newborn. I know they were not happy with the loud noises going on throughout the night.”
