Fort Collins authorities identify couple killed in shooting ruled murder-suicide

Investigators said they determined the 47-year-old man killed the 56-year-old woman before turning the gun on himself.

FORT COLLINS, Colo — The deadly shooting of a man and woman on Monday morning has been ruled a murder-suicide, according to the Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS).

Officers said they responded to a shooting at a home on the 6500 block of Lynn Drive at 7:02 a.m. and found a dead woman and an injured man.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he died, according to officials.

The Larimer County Coroner's Office (LCCO) identified the woman as 56-year-old Robin Barrett and identified the man as 47-year-old Scott Rothgery, both of Fort Collins.

Barrett's dead was ruled homicide by a gunshot wound, and Rothgery's death was ruled suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to LCCO.

Detectives said they determined the victim and the suspect were in a romantic relationship, and lived together in the Lynn Drive home. Facts from the investigation indicate the couple got into an argument that ended with the shootings, according to FCPS.

"This tragedy has forever changed the lives of many people, and our hearts are with them during this incredibly difficult time," said Assistant Chief Kevin Cronin, who leads the FCPS Criminal Investigations Division. "Domestic violence is an issue that affects many people.
