Driver arrested after scooter hit near Ball Arena post-Nuggets game

The crash happened Sunday night near 9th Street and Auraria Parkway.

DENVER — The driver involved in a crash with a scooter rider Sunday night after the Nuggets game has been arrested, according to Denver Police.

About 11:30 p.m., Denver Police responded to a crash in the area of 9th Street and Auraria Parkway. That's near Ball Arena in downtown Denver, and the crash happened after Game 7 between the Nuggets and Timberwolves.

Police said one person was taken to the hospital and the driver of the vehicle remained on scene. Denver Police arrested a 52-year-old man for careless driving resulting in a crash.

9NEWS reporter Rachael Krause was speaking with Nuggets fans outside Ball Arena when the crash happened. She said she heard a loud crash and that the driver continued for another 30 feet past the scene as bystanders chased him down and tried to get him to stop.

In the probable cause statement, police said the driver was showing signs of impairment including slurred speech, odor of alcohol, trouble maintaining balance and bloodshot and watery eyes.

Police said the driver performed "unsatisfactorily" during a field sobriety test and was arrested. He was taken to Denver Health to perform a blood test. Results of that test are pending.

On Monday, the driver was being held in the Denver jail on suspicion of vehicular assault.
