AURORA, Colo. — Police are looking for more information about a man after he was recently arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two young children in their home.
Aurora Police said Mohamad Arab Bin Shamsur-Alam, 38, was arrested late last month. He's facing four felony charges right now: two counts of sexual assault on a child, and two counts of child enticement. Police said more charges are pending.
"It's disturbing because it happened in someone else's home," said Agent Matthew Longshore, Aurora Police Department public information officer. "When you go to hire a repairman, you probably don't think of these things."
Shamsur-Alam was working as a home repairman last summer when he coaxed the two girls into a bathroom and sexually assaulted them, APD said.
During the investigation, it was found that Shamsur-Alam had also assaulted the children at an earlier time while doing maintenance at the home, police said.
“We believe that the assault possibly took place on two or more occasions at this house. So we know that he was either comfortable in this house doing that, comfortable with doing this type of act which makes us believe there could be other victims," Longshore said.
Police said Shamsur-Alam speaks numerous languages, including Burmese. Investigators are concerned he may be targeting the Burmese community or other immigrant groups. Police said they believe there are more victims of Shamsur-Alam due to his escalating behavior.
'We don't know if he's specifically targeting Burmese but we know he speaks Burmese. We know he speaks other languages," Longshore said. "We're worried that there could be these immigrant communities that are hiring this person because he speaks their language, that invite him into their home, trusting him."
Shamsur-Alam was arrested in 2019 after he exposed himself to a young girl and pulled down the pants of a young boy, police said. He pleaded guilty in the 2019 case to harassment - strike/shove/kick, according to court records. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Shamsur-Alam is being held in the Denver jail under a $100,000 cash or surety bond, according to court records. He's next due in court in Arapahoe County on April 18.
"I don't think the investigation ends here. There's still a lot of work to be done. And we want to make sure that our community knows we take these things seriously," Longshore said. "That's why we think there might be additional victims that we would love to find to make sure this man can't do it again."
