ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A 19-year-old has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a 2022 fatal shooting in Adams County.

The 17th Judicial district attorney, Brian Mason, announced the sentencing of Cristian Guzman-Agramon early Tuesday.

On August, 21, 2022, a group of young people had gathered at a park near West 80th Avenue and Elmwood Lane for an impromptu party, according to the district attorney's office.

At some point during the party, Guzman-Agramon, who was 17 years old at the time, jumped in the front passenger window of a vehicle. Guzman-Agramon attempted to grab a fanny pack that held cash from 19-year-old Israel Montes Madera, according to the district attorney.

Madera refused to hand it over, and Guzman-Agramon fired shots at Madera, the district attorney said. Other shots were fired from the group after Guzman-Agramon opened fire, according to the district attorney's office.

Madera died at a local hospital. Guzman-Agramon and another bystander were injured in the shooting.

Last September, Guzman-Agramon pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced by an Adams County judge on Jan. 26.

"This was a senseless act of brutal violence and one young life was ended forever,” Mason said. “I ask my community to wrestle with this incomprehensible fact: Kids are shooting kids. And this case was a prime example. A 17-year-old shot and killed a 19-year-old. One is now gone, and the other is heading to prison. Teenagers both. Fighting over a fanny pack. We cannot become normalized to this violence amongst our children. My office will vigorously prosecute these brutal cases, but this is not enough. We, as a community, must come together to prevent these crimes and stop this violence from occurring in the first place.”
