Denver International Airport hit 101 degrees Sunday afternoon.

DENVER — It's hot in Denver this weekend – record breaking kind of hot.

Denver International Airport reached 101 degrees just before 1 p.m. on Sunday, making it the second day this week that the city has broken heat records from decades ago.

The National Weather Service reported that Sunday's high beat the old daily record of 100 degrees set in 1878. That's a 146-year-old record.

On Friday, the official temperature in Denver hit 102 degrees. The previous record of 101 was set in 1971 – 53 years ago.

The city will get a slight reprieve Monday, but temperatures are expected to stay hot, with highs likely reaching the upper 90s.

As storms chances tick up Monday into Tuesday, temperatures will cool down, with highs below 90 degrees expected Wednesday.
