Winter weather causes delays at Denver’s airport

A snowy morning ahead of Thanksgiving has led to more than 400 delays and a couple cancellations at Denver’s airport.

DENVER — Winter weather caused delays on Wednesday at Denver International Airport (DIA) ahead of the busy Thanksgiving holiday.

As of 12:25 p.m., 416 delays have been reported at DIA. Only two flight cancellations have been reported so far, both United flights.

Departing aircraft were being sprayed with deicing fluid to remove snow and ice, which can add 15 to 20 minutes to a trip.

The state's largest airport encourages passengers to check on any delays or cancellations before heading to the airport. Security wait times can be checked ahead of time at FlyDenver.com.

DIA expects more than 840,000 passengers to go through security during the Thanksgiving travel period. That is a 7.5% increase compared to the same time last year.

Snow was expected to taper off by early Wednesday afternoon. A Winter Storm Advisory remains in effect for the Denver metro area through 2 p.m. Wednesday.
