DENVER — The trains from the terminal to the concourses at Denver International Airport (DIA) have been repaired Wednesday morning. According to the airport, at about 3:50 a.m., trains had resumed their normal schedule.
On Tuesday, a technical issue caused the trains to run at a limited capacity, creating delays for passengers.
"Due to a technical issue, our trains are running at a limited capacity. Engineers and maintenance crews are evaluating what that issue is and how to resolve it as quickly as they can," DIA spokesperson Courtney Law said.
Another airport spokesperson said later Tuesday that there was damage to a small switch plate. She said crews hoped to get it fixed overnight.
More than 200 flights were delayed or canceled at DIA on Tuesday, but it wasn't clear if those were a result of the reduced train capacity. As of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, 186 flights had been delayed and 48 had been canceled, according to FlightAware.
Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, the airport provided an update, saying buses and additional staff were being deployed to supplement taking passengers from the terminal to the concourses.
Several travelers shared photos Tuesday morning of long lines to board the trains between the terminal and concourses inside the airport.
Throughout the day, lines gradually grew shorter as buses helped transport passengers to different concourses. As the evening approached, the buses eventually stopped and the trains, with their reduced capacity, were able to manage the lighter load of passengers departing and arriving.
Tiffany Jones arrived at the airport in the evening and noticed that one of the train stations was closed, but she assumed it was due to the ongoing airport construction.
"I thought it was just maintenance,” Jones said. “Actually, today has been pretty sweet and quick, but usually, the airport is quite busy."
