DENVER — More than three dozen flights were delayed Wednesday at Denver International Airport after a winter storm moved into the metro area on Tuesday. Conditions were so bad that at one point the Federal Aviation Administration put flights at DIA on a ground stop. That was later lifted.
Conditions are improving and, as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, there were just 44 delays at DIA and four cancellations, according to FlightAware.
The same site indicated there were 728 delays and 29 cancellations as of 10 p.m. Tuesday on a busy travel day at DIA after the Christmas holiday. SkyWest Airlines had the most canceled flights, while Southwest Airlines had the most delays.
About 80,000 travelers were expected to go through DIA on Tuesday.
Some roads in the Denver metro area were icy and snow-covered, so travelers should give themselves extra time to get to the airport. Travelers should also check with their airline before leaving for the airport for information on their flight.
The storm brought several inches of snow, the heaviest snow was expected from Denver into southern Aurora, Parker and Highlands Ranch, according to the National Weather Service.
