JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Interstate 70 has reopened after a crash involving a dump truck and several other vehicles closed eastbound lanes in Jefferson County Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway near the Lookout Mountain Road exit.
The driver of the truck, which was carrying old asphalt lost control, went off the left side of the road and hit a guardrail, according to Colorado State Patrol. A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the truck's load of asphalt spilled as a result of the crash.
Four vehicles that had been behind the truck on the highway ended up crashing into each other as they stopped to avoid the wreck. None of those vehicles hit the truck.
The driver of the truck had minor injuries due to the crash. No one else that was involved was injured.
The highway reopened just before 4:45 p.m.
