AURORA, Colo. — A man has died after being run over by an RTD bus in Aurora Wednesday morning.

The Aurora Police Department (APD) said officers responded to a crash near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and North Havana Street at around 6:25 a.m.

When they arrived, APD said, they found a man in the road who was suffering from apparent traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

When a vehicle was not immediately located, police said, they began interviewing witnesses who told them the man may have been struck by an RTD bus. APD said they confirmed that with surveillance cameras.

Police said video footage showed the man was exiting the rear doors of the bus when he suffered from what appeared to be a medical issue and collapsed, falling under the bus.

After passengers were done getting off and on the bus, APD said, the bus pulled away from the stop with the driver not knowing that the man was underneath.

APD said the bus continued on its route and was later tracked to Union Station, where officers contacted the driver and found evidence linking the bus to the incident.

Police said they don't believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors, but the driver of the bus volunteered to submit to a blood draw to rule out any impairments.

The man's name has not been released, APD said. That information will come from the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office after family have been notified.
