Colorado ski area to require parking reservations

The new system is being implemented as skier numbers increase and parking becomes more scarce.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo — Arapahoe Basin will implement an online parking reservation system for the 2024-2025 season to limit the number of vehicles using their lots on their busiest days.

A-Basin Chief Operating Officer Alan Henceroth wrote on his blog Thursday that the reservation system is the "best and most logical next step" as skier numbers increase and parking becomes more scarce.

Reservations will be required on weekends, holidays and other peak days until 1 p.m. from mid-December through early May, he said. They'll cost $20 per vehicle unless the vehicle is carrying four or more people, in which case the reservation is free.

A limited number of parking season passes will be available for $150.

Henceroth said the reservation system is unrelated to the ski area's sale to Alterra Mountain Company, which is expected to be final later this year.

"This has nothing to do with Alterra or the Ikon Pass," Henceroth wrote. "We are doing this to take care of the guest experience at Arapahoe Basin."

Henceroth said they are currently working to identify parking system vendors, and more information about how the system will work will be released this fall.
