DENVER — One of Colorado's oldest operating ski areas is set to have new ownership.

On Monday, Dream Unlimited announced the sale of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area to Alterra Mountain Company. While no specific date has been announced, the deal is expected to close later in 2024.

“Change is a rich part of our history at A-Basin. Through different ownerships and eras, we’ve always been able to keep the vibe alive at our mountain,” said Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin chief operating officer. “Since 2019, we’ve worked alongside Alterra as a destination on Ikon Pass, and I am certain of their commitment to our history, culture and attitude.”

Henceroth will stay in his role as the ski area's chief operating officer, overseeing daily operations as well as future capital investments such as expanded parking and snowmaking.

There will be no changes to the 2023/24 Ikon Pass winter access or any of the Arapahoe Basin passes, according to the ski area.

Arapahoe Basin was founded in 1946 by Colorado Ski Hall of Famer Larry Jump. In 1997, Arapahoe Basin was purchased by Dundee Realty, which later became Dream. Since then, Arapahoe Basin grew from 490 skiable acres to more than 1,400.

They also own Steamboat Ski Resort and operate Winter Park Resort in Colorado.
