BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Eldora Mountain is concluding its season with record levels of snowfall for April.
The resort received 10 inches of snow at the top of the mountain and eight inches at its base, according to Brent Tregaskis, the General Manager of Eldora Mountain. This unexpected late-season snowfall attracted unprecedented numbers of skiers and snowboarders for a powder-filled closing weekend.
"I don't think we've ever had this many people in late April show up... we had record visitation," Tregaskis remarked.
Originally scheduled to close the previous week, the resort decided to extend its season by one more week due to the promising weather forecast. This decision led to yet another milestone: the longest season in Eldora's history, with opening day stretching back to November 3.
"It turned out to be a blessing... This is an absolute high note, it just turned out to be an amazing year," Tregaskis expressed.
While the extension now delays cleanup operations for the resort by a week, Tregaskis noted that the ski staff was more than willing to be out on the slopes for another week.
"I've skied about 100 days this year, so it's bittersweet for me... There are still several resorts that are open. But we think this is about the perfect time for us... I think a lot of us are ready for it to be spring," he added.
Eldora Mountain is set for its final day of the season on Sunday.
