DENVER — Friday's storm dropped several inches of snow across the Denver metro area overnight.
In the Denver-Boulder corridor, we saw 4-8 inches of snowfall. However, south of downtown Denver, we only saw a dusting to two inches of accumulation. The jet stream is overhead, which helped create localized bands of heavier snow overnight that favored the north side of the metro area. That meant there are sharp gradients in those snowfall totals from one side of the metro area to the other.
A Winter Weather Advisory is set to expire at 9 a.m. Saturday for the Denver metro area and the foothills. The snow is mostly over and done with, but we'll hold onto some light snow until mid-morning or so. With the high April sun angle, though, the snow accumulation is likely over and done with already.
Snow totals around Colorado according to the National Weather Service:
- 4 miles northeast of Nederland - 15 inches
- 1 mile east of Arvada - 10 inches
- 3 miles south of Boulder - 7.0 inches
- 1 mile west of Aspen Springs - 6.5 inches
- Denver International Airport - 6.3 inches
- 1 mile southwest of Westminster - 5.7 inches
- 1 mile northwest of Federal Heights - 5.5 inches
- Wheat Ridge - 5.3 inches
- 1 mile east of Superior - 4.9 inches
- 2 miles west southwest of Estes Park - 4.3 inches
- 4 miles southwest of Windsor - 3.5 inches
- 1 mile northeast of Evergreen - 3.2 inches
- 3 miles northeast of Broomfield - 2.8 inches
- Sterling - 1.8 inches
- 5 miles northeast of Ponderosa Park - 1 inch
Tips for removing snow from trees:
- Be aware that accumulating snow, ice, or wind could cause limbs to break and fall at any time.
- Check to make sure the tree is safe and clear of all utility lines prior to removing snow.
- Do not attempt to shake snow off a tree if a utility line is going through its branches or is within contact distance.
- If the tree is clear of utility lines, use a broom to remove as much snow as possible from branches by brushing off or gently shaking. Avoid large, rapid movement as this could cause the limb to break.
- Do not attempt to climb a tree or use a ladder to reach higher limbs.
If it appears the tree has fallen on powerlines, it's best to leave it alone and wait for the utility to come and clear it.
