PARIS, France — Noah Lyles, Sha'carri Richardson and the many stars of track and field are getting ready for their time in the spotlight of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
While soccer, rugby, cycling, basketball, gymnastics and swimming began the first weekend in Paris, track and field events begin a few days into the 16-day competition.
Track and field events kick off Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Summer Games in Paris.
The opening event is the men's 20km race walk on Thursday, Aug. 1, and the women's 20km race walk on Thursday, Aug. 1.
Friday, Aug. 2, the action accelerates with 10 track and field events, including the men's decathlon, and the first round of women's 100-meter heats featuring Sha'carri Richardson.
The final track and field event is the women's marathon on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Noah Lyles
Noah Lyles, 27, is a breakout star on the Team USA Track and Field team. Lyles is searching for his first Olympic gold medal.
Lyles is the reigning world champion in both the 100 and 200 meters, winning both events at last year's world championships.
Preliminary Round 1 in the 100-meter event is Saturday, Aug. 3. The semifinals and finals in the 100 are Sunday, Aug. 4.
The 200-meter men's races begin Monday, Aug. 5, with other rounds on Aug. 6 and Aug. 7. The 200-meter final is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 8.
Lyles will also run in the 4x100 relay and maybe even the 4x400.
Sha'carri Richardson
Richardson is the fastest woman in the world in the 100-meter in 2024.
The women's 100-meter event begins with preliminary rounds on Friday, Aug. 2. The women's 100-meter final is slated for Saturday, Aug. 3.
Finals for the men's and women's 4x100 relay are on Friday, Aug. 9.

A number of competitors with ties to the state of Colorado will be competing in track and field in Paris.
