PARIS, France — Colorado athlete Sammy Sullivan is shining on the world stage, leading the U.S. women's rugby team to several victories to begin the Paris Olympics.
Sullivan lives in Glendale and plays for the Colorado Gray Wolves, as well as the U.S. women's rugby team. Sullivan started playing rugby at West Point and holds the rank of Army Captain. She's originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina.
While in France for the Summer Games, Sullivan has met first lady Jill Biden and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce and his wife Kylie.
Sullivan said she did not attend Friday's opening ceremony down the River Seine because women's rugby played shortly afterward. Instead of cruising down the river with her fellow athletes, she built Legos.
Sullivan's latest Lego project featured iconic Paris sites including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. In a social media post, she proudly showed off what appeared to be her entire collection of Lego projects.
The Kelces are in Paris to support Team USA. The couple attended a U.S. women's field hockey game as well as a game of the U.S. rugby team over the weekend.
Kylie played field hockey growing up, and she did a TikTok with a couple of the U.S. players this year.
Combined with Jason's retirement, it was perfect timing for a trip to Paris for the Games. Jason said he would have loved to attend the Olympics, but the Summer Games conflict with NFL training camp.
Brother Travis Kelce is mid-camp with the back-to-back defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, while his famous girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is mid-European tour in Munich.
"When we found out that we were going to have an opportunity to go to this, the more we thought about it, we were like, 'Let's take advantage of it now that we can actually do it,'" Jason said. "We love sports, we love competition, we love world events. This is such a unique place where the entire world gets to come together and bond over competition and sports."
