PARIS, France — Noah Lyles, Sha'carri Richardson and the stars of track and field are ready for their time in the spotlight of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
While soccer, rugby, cycling, basketball, gymnastics and swimming began the first weekend in Paris, track and field events begin a few days into the 16-day competition.
Track and field events kicked off Thursday at the Summer Games in Paris. The opening event was the men's 20km race walk and the women's 20km race walk.
On Friday, the track and field action accelerates with 10 events, including the men's decathlon, and the first round of women's 100-meter heats featuring Sha'carri Richardson.
The final track and field event is the women's marathon on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Colorado athletes competing in track and field
A number of competitors with ties to the state of Colorado will be competing in track and field in Paris.
Yared Nuguse
- Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky

- Discipline: Men’s 1500m
- In 2019, Yared was the NCAA D1 champion in the 1500m. He came in second at the Olympic Trials, the first time he had lost to an American since 2022.

- She was the co-valedictorian at Silver Creek High School.
