ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos appear to be moving towards a new long snapper in 2020 after the team signed Jacob Bobenmoyer on Wednesday, a league source told 9News.
Per the source, the Broncos coaching staff, most notably special teams coordinator Tom McMahon were impressed with Bobenmoyer’s athleticism and snap velocity during multiple tryouts last year.
Bobenmoyer, a four-year long snapper and backup outside linebacker at Northern Colorado from 2015-18, had participated in the Broncos’ rookie minicamp, veteran minicamp and late-season special teams tryout last year. He hails from Cheyenne, Wyo.
Bobenmoyer’s signing would indicate the Broncos are moving on from Casey Kreiter, their long snapper of the past four years. Kreiter became the only Pro Bowl long snapper in Broncos’ history when he was selected following the 2018 season by AFC and Los Angeles Chargers coach Anthony Lynn.
One of the more likeable guys on the team, Kreiter drew a $1 million last year and is about to become a free agent this season. As of last week Kreiter told 9News he had not yet heard from the Broncos about a new contract.
