DENVER — Nuggets fans will have to say goodbye to Bones Hyland, who has quickly become a fan favorite, after he was reportedly traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Nuggets will get 2024 and 2025 second-round picks for the second-year guard, according to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
Hyland's name had been circulating in trade rumors ahead of the deadline, and his minutes had been cut.
The 6-foot-3 guard was taken 26th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft after his sophomore season at Virginia Commonwealth University. On the season, he was averaging 12.1 points on 39.9% shooting, 3 assists and 2 rebounds in 19.5 minutes a game.
"Mile high city bab… I love y’all forever thanks for everything & how much love you guys showed towards me it’s been real," Hyland tweeted after the news broke.
Nuggets head coach Michael Malone weighed in on the situation on Tuesday.
"Just trying to give him some space, but also let him know that, yes this is a business but we also care about you," Malone said. "I put myself in his situation and it’s not easy. He’s a young kid, he’s got a lot going on his life, and I just want the best for Bones Hyland. I really do."
Wojnarowski also reported Thursday that the Nuggets were sending a player and picks to the Los Angeles Lakers for backup center Thomas Bryant.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 1 p.m. MST.
