DENVER — Friday's Colorado Rockies game was the warmest in team history.
The temperature at first pitch was 75 degrees, just beating the previous record of 74 degrees in 2017.
These are the five warmest Rockies home openers in history:
- April 5, 2024: 75 degrees
- April 7, 2017: 74 degrees
- April 9, 1993: 72 degrees
- April 5, 2019: 70 degrees
- April 4, 2005 and April 8, 1996: 68 degrees
But warm weather isn't always a given in Colorado for the home opener. There have been some frigid temperatures - including one below freezing - for the game that is often associated with start of spring.
These are the five coldest Rockies home openers in history:
- April 6, 2018: 27 degrees
- April 12, 2004: 37 degrees
- April 26, 1995: 42 degrees
- April 7, 1998: 44 degrees
- April 4, 2014 and April 4, 2003: 48 degrees
Mild and dry weather continued in Colorado through Friday with above-average highs before stormier weather arrives this weekend.
The Rockies games on Saturday and Sunday will be colder. Saturday looks to be mostly cloudy and much cooler with a high temperature near 52 and chance of rain.
Sunday stays cool with partly cloudy skies and a high temperature near 56 degrees.
