DENVER — They ran it back.
Mesa Ridge successfully defended the Class 5A boys basketball state title with another win in the championship game. This season, the Grizzlies held off a comeback attempt from Windsor to defeat the Wizards 57-53 on Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.
The Grizzlies were powered by a game-high 30 points from Bryce Riehl and another 13 from Zander Iwanski.
Madden Smiley and John Backhaus led Windsor with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Mesa Ridge went 26-2 on the season overall, which included a 22-game winning streak in route to the championship. Windsor finishes 23-5 as runner-up.
