HS basketball championship games set

The Colorado high school basketball season will come to an end Saturday with state championship games across the state!

DENVER — It all comes down to this.

The Colorado high school basketball season will come to an end Saturday (March 9) with state championship games across the state.

Here is who will be competing for state titles on championship Saturday:

CLASS 6A

It will be an all-Highlands Ranch battle for the 6A boys title when crosstown rivals ThunderRidge and Valor Christian square off for the championship.

The Grizzlies won a thriller over Eaglecrest with a buzzer-beater in the Final Four, while the Eagles proved to be too much for Smoky Hill. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Denver Coliseum.

The 6A girls crown will go to either Valor Christian or Regis Jesuit.

The Eagles knocked off top-seeded Cherokee Trail in the Final Four, while the Raiders came back against Legend to escape in the final seconds. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at the Denver Coliseum.

CLASS 5A

Mesa Ridge will look to repeat as the 5A boys champion, returning to the title game by moving past top-seeded Northfield in the Final Four.

The Grizzles will face a Windsor team looking for its first championship in modern history after the Wizards escaped Vista PEAK in the semifinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at the Denver Coliseum.

The 5A girls championship pits Northfield against defending champion Roosevelt after the Nighthawks pulled off the upset over top-seeded Air Academy.

The Roughriders return to the title game after beating rival Mead in the semifinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Denver Coliseum.

CLASS 4A

It's a No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup for the 4A boys crown. Top-seeded Kent Denver is seeking its first title since 1997 after moving past Colorado Academy in the semifinals.

The Sun Devils will face Resurrection Christian, which is on the hunt for its first championship in program history. The Cougars a comeback attempt from Lutheran to advance. Tipoff is scheduled for  7:15 p.m. at the Denver Coliseum.

On the girls side, the 4A champs are back to defend their crown. Top- seeded Holy Family held off Resurrection Christian to advance to the title game where the Tigers will face a Riverdale Ridge team that took care of business against D'Evelyn.

The Ravens are making their first appearance in the final game of the year. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at the Denver Coliseum.

CLASS 3A

Yuma and The Vanguard will clash for the 3A boys championship.

Yuma is fresh off upsetting top-seeded Forge Christian by 1 point and the Coursers beat Banning Lewis Academy in the semifinals. Yuma is looking for its first title since 2022 while Vanguard has yet to bring one home in its short school history.

Another 1 vs. 2 matchup for the 3A girls championship as Peyton and Colorado Springs Christian square off for the title.

The top-seeded Panthers handled Yuma in the semifinals, while the Lions blew past St. Mary's. Peyton is seeking its first-ever title, while CSCS is looking to get back to the top for the first time since 2019. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the University of Denver.

CLASS 2A

Limon will meet Sanford for the 2A boys championship.

The Badgers upset top-seeded Simla and the Mustangs defeated Merino to advance. Limon has not won a title since 1964 and Sanford in 20156. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Blue Arena in Loveland.

Top-seeded Merino will face Burlington for the 2A girls championship.

The Rams defeated Simla, while the Cougars topped Wiggins in the Final Four. Merino is seeking its first title since 2002 and Burlington is hoping for its first in school history. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Blue Arena in Loveland.

CLASS 1A

Another matchup of the top two seed for the 1A boys title as McClave takes on Cheyenne Wells.

The Cardinals edged Stratton in the semifinals and the Tigers handled Denver Jewish Day. McClave is aiming to return as champs when they won in 2022, while Cheyenne Wells is playing for its first title in nearly 70 years. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at UNC's Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.

Briggsdale is back to defend its 1A girls crown after upsetting top-seeded McClave in the semifinals.

The Falcons will face a Stratton program looking for its first title since 1995 after the Eagles defeated Flatirons Academy in the semifinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at UNC's Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.
