HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Regulation wasn't enough.
Cherry Creek and Mountain Vista needed not one, but two overtime periods to decide a victor of the Class 5A hockey quarterfinal battle Tuesday night at South Suburban Sports Complex.
In the end, the was the No. 3-ranked Bruins who outlasted the No. 6 Golden Eagles, 4-3, with the game-winner from Dominic Suchkov in double overtime.
"I was just so happy," he said. "In the intermission after the third period I was thinking that I was going to score and what my [celebration] was going to be. I was just happy I got to do it."
Cherry Creek advances to face defending champion and No. 2 Valor Christian in the Frozen Four semifinals on Saturday.
Mountain Vista's season ends with a 14-5-2 overall record.
