Boulder County enacts Stage 1 fire restrictions

With the upcoming Independence Day holiday, it is illegal to use any personal fireworks within the fire restriction area in Boulder County.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — The Boulder County Sheriff's Office enacted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on Monday.

The fire restrictions are for unincorporated areas of western Boulder County due to increasing fire danger, lack of moisture, and the forecast for hot temperatures.

Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson said the fire restrictions will be in effect until the hazardous conditions have subsided.

The fire restrictions ban the use of personal fireworks in unincorporated western Boulder County. The use of any fireworks on Boulder County Open Space or National Forest System lands is also illegal.

Some personal fireworks are allowed in unincorporated Boulder County areas east of U.S. Highway 36 and 93.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said anyone found in violation of the fire ban may be convicted of a civil infraction and may be subject to a $500 fine, in addition to any possible civil penalties.
