LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The Lakewood Police Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are looking for the driver they say hit and killed someone in Lakewood Friday night.
Several 911 calls reported a vehicle hit a pedestrian at Kipling Street and West 23rd Avenue, according to the Lakewood Police Department. They say the pedestrian died and the driver fled the scene.
"Everyone's sad. Everyone's sad,” said Chris Sauthoff, the program manager with the Denver Fencing Center.
When he hit the fencing strip, Terre Engdahl was a fighter.
“He was fierce,” Sauthoff said.
Though friends know, Engdahl's fight truly started years ago.
“Especially after the motorcycle wreck and then fighting so hard through all of this and doing everything to stay alive,” Sauthoff said. “He could still walk, his right side was affected, so he didn’t walk very well.”
Now those who fenced alongside him are fighting to find out what happened to Engdahl.
“I just screamed like, what?” Sauthoff said. “I had to sit down.”
The Lakewood police department said Friday that a driver hit and killed a pedestrian on Kipling Street and West 23rd Avenue.
“We are not going to hear him say ‘okay, okay, good,’ you know we are not going to hear that anymore,” Sauthoff said.
With nothing left but reminders of their dear friend, The Denver Fencing Center is devastated they'll never see Engdahl again.
“That smile, that guy right here,” Sauthoff said. “We are going to miss him a lot here. We really miss him already.”
Now they want to know who's responsible.
“When someone touches us, we say ‘touché,’” Sauthoff said. “You got me and we own up to mistakes. We wish people would own up to their mistakes, whoever did this could just own up it admit it.”
A Medina Alert issued by the CBI and Lakewood Police says they are looking for a 2014 black Chevy Camaro with a Colorado license plate number DWB P87. They say the car has damage to its front, is missing a headlight on the driver's side, and has a broken windshield.
Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to call 911 or the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7300.
