GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — New details were released Thursday on a 20-year-old man who authorities say killed himself rather than go on a rampage at a Colorado theme park but left the biggest question unanswered: Why.
Diego Barajas-Medina was found dead Oct. 28, 2023 in a restroom at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs with these words — "I'm not a killer, I just wanted to get in the cave" — scrawled on the wall.
Authorities said he took his own life.
The Garfield County Sheriff's Office on Thursday said Barajas-Medina had amassed his arsenal legally by ordering online from several websites.
Included in his weapons cache were two semi-automatic "ghost" guns — untraceable firearms that don't have serial numbers and can be purchased and assembled by anyone without a background check.
Colorado banned ghost guns in June 2023 via legislation passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Jared Polis.
