Police identify man suspected of fatally stabbing woman at apartment complex

Adrian Carracedo-Vega, 35, may be heading to Texas or attempting to cross the border, police said. His mode of transportation is unknown.

FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. — Federal Heights Police on Tuesday identified both a woman stabbed to death outside an apartment complex Saturday and the suspect in the case, whom they believe has fled Colorado and could be attempting to cross the border into Mexico.

Police said the suspect, Adrian Carracedo-Vega, 35, was known to the victim and that efforts are underway to locate him. Police issued a nationwide warrant and said Carracedo-Vega may be heading to Texas or attempting to cross the border. His mode of transportation is unknown.

Federal Heights Police responded to a call at 3:27 p.m. Saturday from a party reporting that they had found a woman who had been possibly stabbed outside of the Tuscan Heights Apartments, at 1700 W. 85th Ave.

Police, Fire and EMS personnel on the scene administered emergency treatment to the victim, Sachely Diaz, 20. She was transported to North Suburban Hospital where she later died from her injuries, police said.

To protect the integrity of the investigation, police said no further information will be released at this time.

The incident is under investigation by the Federal Heights Police Department, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Adams County Coroner’s Office and the Adams County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact Detective Shane Valandra at 303-412-3596 or to email svalandra@fedheights.org.
