1 rescued from early morning fire in abandoned motel

Firefighters responded to a structure fire Monday morning near East Colfax Avenue and Valentia Street.

DENVER — Firefighters rescued one person from a structure fire on Monday morning.

The Denver Fire Department first tweeted about the fire at 7:48 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the abandoned motel at East Colfax Avenue and Valentia Street, they found heavy fire on the first floor and in the basement, according to a post on the social media platform X.

Crews were able to get the fire extinguished quickly, according to Denver Fire. The person rescued from the building was taken to the hospital, Denver Fire said in an update. The condition of that person is unknown.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
