Man who died months after Denver shooting was 'always upbeat' and loved life, his father says

Two men were shot while in a car in January. One of the victims, Lyle "Alex" Kerr, died three months later.

DENVER — The father of a man who died three months after he was shot while in a car pleaded on Thursday that anyone with information on the case to come forward.

Lyle "Alex" Kerr was in a car with another person on Jan. 23 near East 7th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Denver when someone approached the car and shot them. The other person recovered, but Alex was rushed to the hospital.

Alex's father, Lyle "Eugene" Kerr, said his son went into organ failure. He died three months later, on April 21, just days after his 43rd birthday.

"He was always upbeat. He loved life, and he was always very happy, and no one can believe that he's not here," Kerr said via video chat from Kentucky, where he lives. "He always had a sense of humor, and I just miss him so much."

"He's a wonderful person. He had a big heart," Kerr said about his son. "I can't understand why someone would do that. Just the grief right now is overwhelming, and it never goes away. You just find a way to live with it."

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for any information that changes that.

"If anybody has any information at all, please call," Kerr said. "This person needs to be stopped."

Kerr said he hopes justice is eventually served. But today, rather than focus on what he lost, he said he hopes people listen to his advice.

"Take advantage of every minute you have because you don't know when it'll be the last," he said.

Denver Police said they don't have a suspect description or any arrests in this case. Alex left behind a mother and sister, as well.
