CORTEZ, Colo. — A boy who was reported missing weeks after his mother was found dead in her Pagosa Springs home has been found safe, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.
Investigators said an Endangered Missing Alert was issued for the 5-year-old boy on July 18. Investigators were concerned for the boy's well-being, and sought the public's help in finding him.
The boy was last seen on July 16 around 1:30 p.m. with his father. Investigators said they were heading to the father's home on Highway 160 in Cortez.
The same day, Colorado's Department of Human Services obtained a court order granting the state emergency custody of the boy. CBI said the father does not have custody of the boy. They are investigating whether the father was aware of his son's custody status when the Endangered Missing Alert was issued.
The boy's mother, Chrystal Snow, was found shot to death in her home in Pagosa Springs on the morning of July 2. Hours later, investigators found the boy with an aunt in Cortez.
CBI previously said they believe Snow was killed in a "targeted" shooting and they have identified "persons of interest," but no arrests have been made.
