WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — The man convicted of nearly killing a Wheat Ridge police officer more than two years ago was sentenced Thursday morning to more than three decades in the Department of Corrections.

In August, a jury convicted Andre Jones of five counts including attempted murder, two counts of assault, motor vehicle theft, and resisting arrest related to an August 2022 incident that left Officer Allan Fischer seriously wounded.

"I was real happy with the judge's sentencing. We got the maximum, which is what we were hoping for," Fischer said after the sentencing. "I'm happy society is going to be safer from one individual."

Thursday morning a judge sentenced him to 32 years in prison related to the attack on Fischer. Jones also pleaded guilty in a separate case related to an assault on a deputy that occurred in September 2023 while he was in jail. For that case, the judge sentenced him to three years in the Department of Corrections which will run consecutive to the 32-year sentence for a total of 35 years.

Jones stabbed Wheat Ridge Officer Allan Fischer 12 times on April 13, 2022. According to investigators, on that night, Fischer and another officer initially responded to a report of a U-Haul truck that had crashed into a fence in the area of 44th Avenue and Ward Road.

They contacted Jones in the vehicle. He refused to identify himself or get out of the truck. While Fischer attempted to escort him out of the truck Jones resisted and attempted to pull away. While resisting, Jones attacked and stabbed Fischer.

He was stabbed 10 times in the neck and once in his chest and back. Fischer spent about two decades working patrol for the department, but can no longer do so. He recently returned to duty working in a new role in the records department.

Fischer said Thursday's sentencing gave some "finality" to what happened to him - and he's hopeful that he and his family can now move forward.

At the time Fischer was stabbed his daughter, Kylee, was in training at the department. She said when her dad was injured she had second thoughts about her career choice.
