CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A man has been arrested in connection with a carjacking that occurred at an Arapahoe County Walmart this month, the sheriff's office said on Thursday.
Pablo Vidales-Pasillas, 25, is being held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and other felony charges related to the carjacking that happened Jan. 2 outside of the car care center at the Walmart at 10900 E. Briarwood Ave.
Vidales-Pasillas is being held in the Denver jail after he was arrested Jan. 17 on unrelated charges. The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said Vidales-Pasillas will be transferred to their detention facility soon. His bond in the carjacking case has been set at $250,000.
In the carjacking case, deputies said a car owner ran into the car care center screaming that their car had been taken. A bystander inside the car care center ran outside and fired at the stolen car, deputies said. That gunfire caused shoppers to panic and run from the store, a witness told 9NEWS.
"It was a quick reaction, I guess," the witness said when the carjacking happened on Jan. 2. "Never been involved in anything like that, but everybody just ducked and tried to get away from there."
Vidales-Pasillas was on parole when the carjacking occurred at the Walmart, according to Department of Corrections records. He was sentenced to three years in prison in 2022 after pleading guilty to aggravated motor vehicle theft that occurred in 2021, court records show.
