UCCS shooting suspect accused of assaulting jail deputy

The deputy suffered bruises and scratches to his arms and nose, an affidavit says.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The man accused of killing two people in a dorm room at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs earlier this year is facing additional charges after he allegedly assaulted a deputy in jail.

Nicholas Jordan, 25, is accused of killing Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24, inside a dorm at UCCS on Feb. 16. He was arrested Feb. 19 and is being held in the El Paso County jail on first-degree murder and other charges.

According to an arrest affidavit written by an El Paso County deputy, the alleged assault happened on March 20. The affidavit says security video captured Jordan punching a deputy in the face as the deputy opened the door of Jordan's cell. The deputy tried to push Jordan back into the cell, and the altercation moved inside the cell, the affidavit says. The victim told investigators at that point, Jordan hit him at least two more times "and actively resisted efforts by [the deputy] to control him," the affidavit says.

Another deputy then arrived and helped pry Jordan off the victim, the affidavit says.

The affidavit says the victim suffered bruises and scratches to his arms and nose. Jordan suffered a cut to his arm when the deputy closed the cell door in an effort to push him back into the cell, the affidavit says.

According to the affidavit, Jordan told investigators the altercation came after he and the deputy had a dispute earlier in the day about a mess in the cell Jordan shares with a cellmate.

Jordan is facing a felony assault charge and a misdemeanor harassment charge in connection with the incident. His next court appearance in the case is set for Wednesday.
