ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Three people – all juveniles – have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting in September of an Iraqi refugee who was trying to prevent his car from being stolen.
Ahmed Zainuldeen had been in the United States for less than a year when he was shot and killed in the parking lot of his apartment building near South Quebec Street and East Yale Avenue in Arapahoe County on Sept. 19, 2023.
Last month, prosecutors charged two of the three suspects as adults. Raydon Collins, who turned 18 earlier this month, and Dhaevontae Broadus, 17, are each charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, aggravated robbery and other charges.
The third suspect's case remains in juvenile court, and due to their age, their name was not released.

At the time of the crime, the sheriff's office said they were looking for four suspects and said it was possible that they were all juveniles. Zainuldeen's 2012 Hyundai Sonata was later found abandoned in a southeast Aurora neighborhood.
Broadus was charged in October in a separate fatal shooting in Aurora that occurred on Sept. 30, just 11 days after the deadly carjacking.
Raphael Velin, 15, was killed in the parking lot of the Southlands shopping center near 6100 Main St. Broadus turned himself in to police for that case and has been in custody since mid-October on charges of second-degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery.
