AURORA, Colo. — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at Southlands Mall in September, the Aurora Police Department said on Thursday.
Police said a 17-year-old was arrested Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Because he is under 18, his name is not being released.
The boy is the second person to be arrested in connection with the shooting. The other suspect, 16-year-old Dhaevontae Broadus, turned himself in to police Oct. 9. Broadus is charged as an adult with second-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
Raphael Velin, 15, was killed in the shooting Sept. 30 in the parking lot of the shopping center near 6100 Main St.
Aurora Police Chief Art Acevedo said in a news conference Oct. 9 that investigators believed there were five suspects and multiple shooters, all teens and young adults. Police said on Thursday that they are still trying to identify and find additional suspects, as well as witnesses to the shooting.
