Police believe there could be more victims of doctor accused of sexual contact

As the criminal case begins against Dr. Mark Young, police say five victims so far have come forward.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — A day after investigators arrested a doctor in this city, police announced they are seeking to talk to more people who may have been victimized at a now-closed ketamine clinic.

On Monday, Dr. Mark Young was booked into the Garfield County jail on four counts of unlawful sexual contact.

Young owned and operated Apex Health Alliance, which shut down last year. Around that time, Colorado’s medical board suspended his license. His suspension order references “inappropriate touching of a patient.”

While the criminal affidavit in Young’s case was not immediately available, Glenwood Police said in a news release on Tuesday that one of the victims is "an at-risk female."

Young “made sexually inappropriate comments and made unlawful sexual contact after administration of her medication on her last visit,” the press release said.

While ketamine has historically been used as a sedative, it’s also used in modern psychedelic therapy because of its dissociative effects. Ketamine clinics have grown in popularity because the drug is used to help treat people with mental health issues like anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

“Based upon the location, prior history, indications that his behavior involved others and related evidence, the Glenwood Springs Police Department seeks to speak with other potential victims,” police wrote in the release.

An attorney representing Young said in an email, “We don’t have a comment at this time, but will let you know if that changes in the future.”

Police asked anyone with information about other possible victims to call them at 970-384-6500.
