COMMERCE CITY, Colo — A man is facing charges in connection with a shooting that killed a woman and injured two other people in Commerce City earlier this month, the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office said.
Makayla Lawrence, 20, was killed in the shooting around 1 a.m. Sept. 6 on Oneida Drive near the intersection with 73rd Avenue. Another victim was critically wounded but expected to survive. A third victim had injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening, police said at the time.
Prosecutors said Thursday that Ethan Jennings, 21, is charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of assault in connection with the shooting.
Jennings was in custody in Weld County when the charges were filed against him.
Police said at the time of the shooting that they believe Lawrence was an "unintended target" and was not involved in any type of altercation that could have led to the shooting.
