DENVER — The father of a teenage boy charged in the killing of a bar employee in downtown Denver has been arrested as an accessory to the crime.

Todd Kidd was shot while at work at Federales at 29th and Larimer streets on July 10 and died a few days later.

A 14-year-old boy was identified as the suspect in the shooting and was eventually arrested in Casper, Wyoming. 9NEWS is not naming the boy due to his age.

The boy's father, Steven Marquez, was arrested last week on charges of accessory to a crime and attempt to influence a public servant.

According to a probable cause statement for his arrest, police called Marquez and told him his son was wanted on a murder warrant. During the phone call, Marquez said he last saw his son on July 11, which was the day after the shooting but the day before Kidd died, the statement says.

Later during the call, the document says, Marquez said he would go get his son to turn him in. He said he needed to pick him up from Thornton and hung up on the detective. That detective noted that Marquez knew where his son was based on those statements.

The detective waited until 10 p.m. for Marquez to show up with his son, but he never arrived and did not call to make other arrangements.

On the afternoon of July 14, Marquez called the detective and said he would turn his son in the next day, but only after the boy spoke with the media. He told the detective there was video of the incident "that the world needs to see," the PC statement says.

Marquez also made social media posts about the facts of the incident, indicating he had been in contact with his son about what happened, the document says.

The detective obtained a search warrant for Marquez's phone and began receiving pings for its location. That data showed the device traveled northbound along Interstate 25 and into Wyoming.

It remained in Casper for about an hour before the device moved back toward Colorado.

Detectives conducted surveillance of Marquez and determined which vehicle he was driving. They found through a license plate database that he had traveled in the Thornton area on the evening when he said he needed to pick up his son, the PC statement says.

Investigators identified a relative of Marquez who lived in Casper and noted that he had been in contact with that person. The boy was taken into custody on the evening of July 16 in Casper. It was noted that he and another unidentified person had shaved their heads since the shooting in an apparent effort to disguise themselves, the PC statement says.
